Woman, 39, killed after jet ski collides with boat on Manitoba river

By News Staff

Police in Manitoba say a 39-year-old woman from Portage la Prairie was killed after a boat and jet ski collided on the Whitemud River.

Mounties say the crash happened Saturday around 4:25 p.m. in the RM of Westlake-Gladstone, about 60 kilometres northwest of Portage la Prairie.

Investigators believe the boat and Sea-Doo, which were going in opposite directions, collided as they came around a bend in the river.

The two people on the Sea-Doo were taken aboard the boat, according to police, and returned to a nearby campground to meet with first responders.

The 39-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead on scene. The 31-year-old male operator of the Sea-Doo, also from Portage la Prairie, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

None of the five occupants on the boat were injured.

Amaranth RCMP are investigating.
