Man in 20s dead in highway crash outside Winnipeg involving pickup trucks, semi-trailer

By News Staff

Police say a man in his 20s is dead and two others were injured in an accident involved three pickup trucks and a semi-trailer on a highway just outside Winnipeg on Tuesday morning.

Mounties say it happened around 12:35 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 15 and Highway 101.

Investigators believe a first pickup truck going west on Highway 15 made contact with a second pickup truck, also going west.

“That contact made the first truck lose control and veer to the right, where it struck the side of a trailer of a semi-trailer stopped at the red light in the southbound lane of the Perimeter Highway,” RCMP said in a news release.

“The contact between the two pickups caused the second pickup truck to collide with the third westbound pickup truck. These two vehicles went through the intersection and came to rest on the west side of the Perimeter Highway.”

All three pickup drivers were men in their 20s, police say.

The driver of the first pickup was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the second pickup was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the third pickup was treated and released on scene.

The 69-year-old semi-driver was not injured, RCMP add.

Officers from Beausejour, St-Pierre-Jolys, Red River North, Selkirk and the Winnipeg Police Service provided help on scene.

Oakbank RCMP is investigating.
