Toronto comedian headlines Yuk Yuk comedy final show

Toronto native and JUNO-nominated stand-up comedian, Keith Pedro, headlines the final comedy show at Yuk Yuk’s Winnipeg, bringing back a popular act that began in the city last year.

“We did our first show, the Joke-Silog, which — Silog is like a breakfast so we just added the word ‘joke’ in Filipino … That pretty much started off a whole tour that I started,” said Pedro.

“We brought the Joke-Silog to Sacramento, sold that out, sold out in San Diego and then the great people here at Yuk Yuk’s Winnipeg Fort Gary they’re like. Can you bring the show back? And I said, nope, we’re bringing it back in June, where it’s Filipino Heritage Month.”

Also joining Pedro on stage are comedians Norm Alconcel, from Kevin Hart’s LOL Network, and American comedian Aivy Cordova.

“Man, so we planned this out actually perfectly because. I’ll be honest, Winnipeg is probably where the coolest Filipinos are in Canada. Don’t kill me, everybody’s gonna kill me now, but I honestly think the Filipinos in Winnipeg – because … they’re very united and the love that I receive when I’m here is so magnetic and, it’s like, it’s great.”

Four shows over Friday and Saturday night are scheduled for the performers at the comedy club inside the Fort Garry Hotel.

“Even though Filipinos are one race, you could say, but we’re very diverse. There’s light Filipinos, there’s dark Filipinos, Ilocanos, Bisayans, Tagalogs, there’s so many types of Filipinos. I think what makes this show so relatable and so attracted to that is because we have all different blends of these types of Filipinos,” said Pedro.

“We have a Fil-American. Filipino Canadians, we have Filipinos that speak Tagalog. Some speak Ilocano. Some don’t even speak it at all, they’re just born and raised in North America … I think this a good way to showcase what we’re talking about and what we do.”
