Manitoba Motorcycle ‘Ride for Dad’ for prostate cancer awareness

The 16th Manitoba Motorcycle “Ride for Dad” event kicked off Saturday morning at Polo Park.

The annual ride marks the start of a six-week awareness and education campaign for prostate cancer, with emphasis of the importance of early detection.

“This will be my first time riding, but I have pledged to it for the last three years,” said Merrick Seidel, who came in from the East Coast to participate in the event.

Ride for Dad says more than 1.2 million men in Canada have prostate cancer, and 80 per cent of them don’t even know.

Over the past 15 years, the Ride for Dad has raised over $4.2 million for prostate cancer research and education in the province.

This year, the ride took motorcyclists from Polo Park to Selkirk, Gimli, then to Windsor Park in the afternoon.

Anyone looking to make a donation can do so online at the Ride for Dad Manitoba website.
