Man already facing murder charges arrested in 3rd homicide: Winnipeg police

By News Staff

A 27-year-old man who was already in police custody facing charges in two homicides was arrested for a third Tuesday.

Maxim Dale Garneau was arrested at the Winnipeg Remand Centre on a warrant for first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Robert Clayton Smith last month in North End.

Officers were called to a suite on Manitoba Avenue near Aikins Street on March 16 around 2:45 p.m. for a person in distress. They found Smith unresponsive and “requiring immediate medical care.” He was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

Garneau is also facing second-degree murder charges in the deaths of Daniel Raymond Garvey-Rodriquez, 25, and Edgar Allan Bear, 56.
