Former Winnipeg teacher charged with sexual assault

A Winnipeg teacher has been charged with a number of sex offences that were said to have occurred at Collège Béliveau. Mitchell Ringos reports.

Winnipeg police have charged a 41-year-old woman with sexual assault after police received a report of an alleged sexually exploitative relationship between a former physical education teacher and a former student from College Beliveau.

Police say the report indicated the former teacher allegedly forged an inappropriate and sexual relationship with a student who was under 18-years-old at the time of the incident.

It is believed the student was groomed, before the former teacher allegedly engaged in inappropriate physical and sexual contact on school trips and on occasion in the city.

Police say the offences began while the former student was still attending the school and continued after she was no longer attending it.

On March 29, police charged Amanda Rachelle Sherrett, 41, with sexual assault, sexual exploitation, and luring a person under 18-years-old by means of telecommunications.
