To celebrate “la Journée Internationale de la Francophonie” — International Francophonie Day — the Francophonie flag was raised at City Hall.

City Hall celebrates “la Journée Internationale de la Francophonie” — International Francophonie Day — during Canada’s Francophone Heritage Month.

“We are celebrating our 150th anniversary as a city and the Francophone community really has been there at the beginning, was key to the foundation of Winnipeg and key to the future of our city as well,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham.

A few dozen people gathered at City Hall to watch the Francophonie flag being raised. It represents over 110,000 Manitobans who speak French and 35,000 Manitobans who call French their mother tongue.

“[I’m] glad to celebrate with the Francophone community this month.”
