Adult and teens charged for weapons theft: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say an adult and multiple teens have been charged in connection to a weapons theft.

WPS says officers responded to a business along Sterling Lyon Parkway on Wednesday, after receiving a report that a group of suspects had allegedly stolen some items.

Through the initial stages of the investigation, police learned that a group of youths had attended the business, where they then allegedly stole three machetes and throwing knives, and fled on foot to a mall across the street.

Officers were able to locate six individuals within the mall and took them into custody.

The officers were able to seize three 18″ machetes and a pack of three Smith and Weston 8″ throwing knives.

“Through their investigation, officers learned the suspects associated with one another had attended the retail business to steal property, mainly machetes and knives,” said Winnipeg police in a statement.

Since, three boys aged 21, 13 and 16 were charged with possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and theft under $5,000.

Three girls between the ages of 15 and 16, were also taken into custody. One was detained on the strength of an unendorsed warrant in her name. The other two were issued trespassing notices and released without charges.
