1 in critical condition after being trapped inside commercial building on fire: WFPS

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services says one person is in hospital following an overnight fire at a commercial building along Sargent Avenue.

Around 1:18 a.m., fire crews responded to a report of a fire. When they arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the building.

WFPS says one person was trapped inside the building, and had to be rescued. They were taken to hospital in critical condition.

Around 2:33 a.m., the fire was declared under control.

Fire crews say the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Water used to fight the fire has frozen in some areas. The City of Winnipeg says it is monitoring conditions and applying sand and other de-icing agents on roads and sidewalks.
