4 teens arrested after altercation with security at Forks Market: police

By News Staff

Winnipeg police say four teenagers are facing charges after allegedly fighting with security guards at the Forks Market Saturday evening.

The Winnipeg Police Service says one of the youths also discharged what is believed to be bear spray at security and physically assaulted them.

Police say officers were called around 5:25 p.m., with suspects fleeing the scene when they arrived.

All four boys – aged 14 to 17 – were arrested after short pursuits on foot, police say. Authorities allege a knife and brass knuckles were seized from the boys as evidence.

Officers say the incident began when security spotted the teens, who are allegedly barred from the market, and told them to leave.

The suspects then threatened to assault the security guards as they were being escorted off the property, police add. Once near the Esplanade Riel Footbridge, that’s when the canister was allegedly discharged. Officers reported no injuries.

The boys, all from Winnipeg, are facing multiple charges including assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and uttering threats. All four were released.
