Winnipeg bracing for more snow

While Winnipeggers woke up to a bit of snow Monday morning, it was still fairly pleasant when it came to our temperatures. That’s about to change as we go further into Tuesday evening. Edward Djan has more.

Snow and extreme cold are on the way to Winnipeg. Starting Monday night, the city is expected to drop to -18oC, with 2 cm of snow also expected overnight.

According to Environment Canada, snow and blowing snow will begin in the evening and continue into Tuesday.

High winds are also expected Monday evening, ranging from 40 km/h to 60 km/h.

Samantha Mauti with Environment Canada says the storm is an Alberta clipper, that is quickly making its way through the province.

“Some snow happened in Winnipeg last night and into this morning, so a second wave of precipitation is expected for the Winnipeg area,” said Mauti.

Mauti adds snowfall warnings are in place for some parts of Manitoba.

Tuesday’s daytime high is projected to be -16oC before windchill. Overnight lows are expected to reach -28oC.

As of Monday afternoon, Environment Canada says Wednesday through Saturday should be sunny, before Winnipeg gets more snow Saturday evening.
