By News Staff

Two North End homes were heavily damaged by a blaze Friday evening.

Nobody was injured, but all residents of the homes on Mountain Avenue near McGregor Street needed temporary accommodation.

Crews were called to the two-storey homes around 7:45 p.m. and arrived to find the structures fully engulfed in flames and smoke.

Firefighters managed to keep the flames from spreading to other homes. The fire was declared under control at 9:46 p.m.

Both homes suffered significant smoke, fire and water damage, WFPS says. The fire is under investigation.

Earlier that evening, around 7 p.m., a WFPS crew was attending an unrelated medical call at an apartment building on Fountain Street near Logan Avenue when a fire was discovered.

Additional crews were dispatched to the scene and the fire was quickly brought under control, according to WFPS.

Some residents managed to evacuate while others sheltered in their suites.

Winnipeg Fire says the flames were contained to the suite where the blaze originated. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
