Manitoba public schools are set to receive an average 3.4 per cent increase in operating support for the school year that starts in September.
The provincial government announced the increase and says the amount for each school division will vary based on factors including enrolment.
The province will also increase funding for debt service and capital spending, and it will add $27.5 million for an expanded school nutrition program announced earlier this week.
The NDP government is also setting aside $3 million to fund 30 new teachers to help reduce class sizes in early grades.
The overall funding increase to public and independent schools works out to $104 million.
The government has promised to revamp the education funding formula, which currently relies partly on property taxes, in time for the 2025 school year.
