Manitoba police watchdog looking into events that led to man breaking leg

Manitoba’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU), says it is investigating events surrounding an arrest made by Winnipeg police on Tuesday.

The IIU says Winnipeg police attended a home along Agnes Street in an attempt to arrest a man wanted on four warrants.

When officers arrived, they were informed the man was on the second-floor balcony.

As officers tried to approach the man, it’s believed he tried to flee by jumping off the balcony. Immediately after jumping, he was taken into custody and then to hospital, where it was confirmed he broke his leg.

Due to the nature of the injury, Winnipeg police contacted the IIU to investigate.

The IIU is asking if anyone has any information regarding the incident to contact investigators at 1-844-667-6060.
