Winnipegger charged in connection to two break-ins

Winnipeg police say a 22-year-old is facing five charges in connection to two recent break-and-enters.

WPS says around 11 p.m. on Jan. 16, officers responded to a report of a break-in at a business on Portage Avenue.

When officers arrived at the business, they noticed it had sustained damage, which included a smashed overhead door, but noted there were no suspects at the scene.

A short time later, officers responded to a second business regarding a similar break-and-enter.

Police say at the second location, a vehicle had been stolen and driven through the overhead door.

By 3:05 a.m., officers patrolling the area spotted the stolen vehicle along Talbot Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. From there, two people were taken into custody.

WPS has since charged one of the individuals — a 22-year-old — with break and enter with intent, break and enter to commit theft, mischief over $5,000, operation of a conveyance while prohibited, and possession of property obtained by a crime.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
