1 person found dead in College Avenue fire

A person was found dead inside a multi-family home in Winnipeg’s North End early Tuesday morning after a fire.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on College Avenue around 1 a.m. They arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.

It was declared extinguished by 2:08 a.m. Firefighters then searched the home and found a body, WFPS says.

All other residents escaped prior to fire crews arriving. Two people suffered injuries and were taken to hospital in unstable condition.

A Winnipeg Transit bus and Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) provided shelter and accommodations for residents who were affected by the blaze.

WFPS says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
