Woman in hospital following New Year’s shooting at Winnipeg lounge

Winnipeg police say a woman is in hospital after a shooting on New Year’s Day at a lounge on St. Mary’s Avenue.
WPS responded to a report of a shooting around 1:30 a.m. along St. Mary’s Avenue near Donald Street. Reports indicated that after the woman was shot, the suspect fled the scene.
When officers arrived, they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound and began providing medical assistance, before paramedics arrived and took her to a hospital.
Police say through the initial stages of the investigation, the woman is not believed to have been the target of the shooting.
No charges have been laid.
