Manslaughter charge laid after assault victim dies of injuries in hospital

A man is facing a manslaughter charge after an assault victim died of his injuries on Boxing Day.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the assault took place Dec. 9 near Disraeli Freeway.

The victim, 59-year-old Floyd Flett of Winnipeg, was taken to hospital via ambulance.

“While the victim remained in hospital, his condition diminished,” WPS said in a news release. He died Dec. 26.

Police say investigators with the major crimes unit identified a suspect and issued an assault-related warrant for his arrest.

“The relationship between the accused and the victim has not been established at this time,” police say.

Following Flett’s death, the Crown authorized a manslaughter charge.

Winnipeg police took a 30-year-old man into custody Friday for manslaughter and other weapons-related charges. He remains in custody.
