Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating the circumstances surrounding a medical incident that occurred during a Winnipeg Police Service arrest on Monday morning.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) says Winnipeg police responded to an emergency call to assist the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) on Arlington Street.
WPFS reported to police that a woman was experiencing a medical event.
When officers arrived, they found a woman who was being erratic and combative.
Officers were able to restrain the woman, at which point, paramedics administered a sedative.
After the sedation, the woman experienced a further medical event and was transported to the Health Sciences Centre in critical condition.
The IIU is asking if anyone has any information, to contact investigators at 1-844-667-6060.
