Concerns are being raised after second school threat in a week in Winnipeg

St. John’s High School was closed Monday morning to staff and students after the Winnipeg police said they were notified of threats involving the school.

“It was brought to our attention by parents and staff, and this morning we made a decision pretty early out of an abundance of precaution,” said Matt Henderson, the superintendent of the Winnipeg School Division.

Winnipeg police say they were notified of the threats around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, and that major crimes is taking over the investigation. As a precautionary measure, they decided to close the school to continue looking into it.

This is the second school threat in less than a week, as Bernie Wolfe School was evacuated after a reported threat.

In both cases, officials say the actions were taken out of an abundance of caution, but the back-to-back incidents have caused concern for parents online.

“Whenever there is a big event that happens at a school, we ensure that we have our clinical support teams on hand, not only for children but for staff as well,” said Henderson.
