Winnipeg woman killed in highway hit-and-run near Dugald, autopsy confirms

By News Staff

An autopsy has confirmed a woman hit by a pickup truck on Highway 15 last week had been previously struck by another vehicle that fled the scene.

Oakbank/Beausejour RCMP have identified the victim in the Thursday morning incident as a 27-year-old from Winnipeg. She was previously incorrectly identified by police as a teenager aged 14 or 15.

RCMP say the victim died of injuries from being struck by a vehicle on the highway near Dugald, about 30 kilometres east of Winnipeg.

The victim was subsequently struck by a pickup truck around 1:50 a.m. The 31-year-old driver of the pickup truck called 911 and provided medical assistance until EMS arrived.

“With this new information, officers returned to the collision scene and conducted a thorough search of the area where vehicle debris was located and seized,” RCMP said in a news release.

The investigation is ongoing.
