Winnipeg police say a teenager needed surgery after being stabbed in the upper body downtown Friday night.

The Winnipeg Police Service says officers were flagged down near Carlton Street and Portage Avenue around 11:30 p.m.

Officers located a 14-year-old boy with “serious upper-body injuries sustained from a stabbing.” They applied chest seals and a tourniquet before paramedics arrived.

Police say the victim was transported to hospital in critical condition. He was upgraded to stable condition before undergoing surgery.
