Stefanson’s approval rating remains lowest among Canadian premiers despite uptrend

Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson’s approval rating remains the lowest among Canadian premiers despite a recent upswing, new polling shows.

The Angus Reid Institute has Stefanson’s approval rating at 28 per cent – up from 25 percent.

It’s her highest approval rating since taking office in 2021, according to Angus Reid.

But it still puts the Manitoba premier at the bottom of the pack, now tied with Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who lost five percentage points from his previous standing.

According to the poll, 28 per cent of Manitobans approve of Stefanson while 60 per cent are critical of her performance.

Stefanson is vying for re-election. Manitobans head to the polls Oct. 3.

Elsewhere, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston are tied with the country’s highest current approval rating at 50 per cent despite a significant drop for both.

Newfoundland Premier Andrew Furey (49 per cent), B.C. Premier David Eby (48 per cent) and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith (47 per cent) all made gains in approval rating, the research shows.

Quebec Premier François Legault dropped one percentage point to 47 per cent.

The Angus Reid Institute conducted an online survey from Aug. 31 to Sept. 8 among 3,873 Canadian adults who are members of Angus Reid Forum.
