IIU looking into events surrounding collision at Ellice Avenue and Young Street Sunday

Manitoba’s police watchdog has begun an investigation into a collision in Winnipeg that sent one person to hospital on Sunday.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) says it was alerted by the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) to the incident that took place at Ellice Avenue and Young Street.

In the WPS report, officers are said to have witnessed an off-road vehicle driving on McMicken Street near Sargent Avenue.

Officers followed the off-road vehicle before attempting to conduct a traffic stop. While the WPS was attempting to make the traffic stop, the off-road vehicle collided with two other vehicles at the intersection of Ellice Avenue and Young Street.

The driver of the off-road vehicle was injured in the collision and was taken to a hospital.

The WPS says the drivers of the other vehicles were uninjured.
