Manitobans gather at legislature on overdose awareness day

Dozens gathered at Manitoba’s Legislative building this afternoon to honor the importance of international overdose awareness day.
August 31 marks the annual campaign, created to end overdoses and remember those who have died from an overdose, while acknowledging the family and friends left behind.
This years theme was “Recognizing those people who go unseen”- acknowledging people in our community who are affected by overdose but might go unseen in the crisis.
According to Statistics Canada over 73-hundred people died in 2022, an average of 20 deaths per day, a number that has doubled since 2019.
