A convicted sex offender with a lengthy history of violence against women and girls was released from prison Tuesday.
Winston George Thomas, 46, is expected to live in Winnipeg after being released from Headingly Correctional Centre.
Thomas was serving a 13-month sentence for six counts of failing to comply with his probation order.
The Winnipeg Police Service says he is at high risk to re-offend “in a sexual and/or sexually violent manner against all females, both adults and children.”
WPS says Thomas also has a history of breaching probation orders and recognizances.
History of sexual assaults
Police have issued multiple warnings about Thomas in recent years.
In 2003, Thomas broke into a woman’s home and sexually assaulted her. He was convicted and sentenced.
Three years later, he was again convicted of sexual assault involving a woman.
He was convicted for sexual assault in 2008 against a 13-year-old girl.
He has also been convicted of aggravated assault, assault, and assault against a peace officer.
Winnipeg police say Thomas is subject to certain conditions until August 2025. He is subject to a lifetime weapons prohibition order.
Police say Thomas participated in sex offender treatment programming while incarcerated.
