15-year-old killed after teen brought shotgun to Jefferson home: WPS

Winnipeg police say a 15-year-old was killed following a shooting on Saturday in the Jefferson neighbourhood.

The Winnipeg Police Service says around 8:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of gunfire at a home.

When officers arrived, they found the teen dead with a gunshot wound.

Investigators believe a group of teens were socializing at a home when another teen brought a sawed-off shotgun.

Police believe the teen with the gun was aiming the loaded gun at three others who were present.

“One of the youths was shot and killed when the firearm discharged in his direction,” police said in a news release.

Winnipeg police have since charged a 16-year-old in connection to the shooting. He is facing the following charges:

  • Three counts of Pointing a Firearm;
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition;
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm;
  • Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regs;
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition.
