Manitoba’s Brett Howden brings Stanley Cup to Oakbank

By News Staff

The Stanley Cup continued its Manitoba tour Sunday with a stop in Oakbank, a small town just east of Winnipeg.

Vegas Golden Knights forward Brett Howden held the Cup high above his head as he marched in a parade in his hometown.

The 25-year-old had 10 points in 22 playoffs games to help the Knights win the Stanley Cup earlier this summer. He had 13 points in 54 games during the regular season.

Vegas and Howden avoided arbitration last week by agreeing to a new two-year, $3.8-million contract.

The Cup-winning Knights were full of Manitoba connections. Players Howden, Mark Stone, Nolan Patrick, Keegan Kolesar, Byron Froese and Zach Whitecloud are all from the province.

And Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon was the owner, head coach and general manager of the Brandon Wheat Kings. McCrimmon brought the Cup to Brandon on July 21.
