Arrest made in fatal West Broadway stabbing

By News Staff

Police have laid second-degree murder charges in connection with the death of a 64-year-old Winnipeg man in a West Broadway apartment building.

The Winnipeg Police Service says 42-year-old Abdiazia Ahmed Saeed was arrested Monday in the stabbing death of Marcel Alphonse Painchaud. The accused was detained in custody.

It was the 19th homicide in Winnipeg this year.

Police allege the suspect and victim, who were tenants in the same building and knew each other, got into an altercation Saturday night, which led to the fatal stabbing.

Police were called to the building on Langside Street near Portage Avenue around 10:30 p.m.

Officers arrived and located the victim, who was declared dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives are investigating.
