17-year-old stabbing victim dies from injuries: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police are now investigating an aggravated assault that happened last week as a homicide, after the victim died of their injuries.

The WPS says around 10:30 p.m. on June 17, a fight broke out within a group of teens near Graham Avenue and Fort Street.

During the fight, investigators say a 14-year-old stabbed a 17-year-old multiple times. They add a 15-year-old girl also became involved in the fight.

Police say bystanders provided first aid to the teen as they called 911.

The 17-year-old was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.

During the initial stages of the investigation, police said they believe the 17-year-old was leaving a concert and intervened in a confrontation when he was stabbed.

The WPS says both the 14-year-old and 15-year-old have been charged since the stabbing. The 14-year-old is facing second-degree murder charges and remains in custody, while the 15-year-old is facing assault with a weapon charges.
