How police linked sales of lethal substance and suicides to a Canadian man

By Analysis by The Big Story Podcast

In today’s Big Story podcast, last week, Peel Regional Police in Ontario charged a man with aiding or counselling suicide after alleging that he preyed upon distressed individuals online and sold them sodium nitrite, a chemical they used to take their own lives.

The charges are connected to two Canadian deaths. However, reports from other countries have linked at least seven deaths to the substance, which police claim Kenneth Law sold and encouraged victims to use.

Lucas Casaletto has been covering the story for CityNews Toronto, he says that he thinks the case might lead to more scrutiny over how the chemical is bought and sold online.

“What’s rather concerning is how easily these people were able to search up sodium nitrite and ultimately order it,” says Casaletto.

The police investigation continues, but what do we know so far about what happened? And what might we learn as the case continues?
