Escaped inmates from The Pas in custody: RCMP

By The Canadian Press and News staff

Manitoba RCMP have arrested three inmates who escaped from a correctional facility in northern Manitoba.

Mounties in The Pas say Xander Tardiff is in police custody after officers located the 19-year-old and safely arrested him on Tuesday.

Police say officers patrolling the area located Kelly Castel, 21, on Wednesday morning near Halcrow Avenue but he fled on foot. A police dog led officers to Castel who was hiding a short distance away. He was arrested at the scene.

The two men, along with a third, escaped from the correctional centre shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday.

A search involving additional police resources, including police dogs, resulted in the apprehension of one of the inmates, who was returned to custody.

Alert Ready messages were issued for residents of The Pas, Flin Flon and surrounding areas in Manitoba, and Saskatchewan RCMP issued a Sask Alert message to residents in Creighton, Sask., and nearby areas.

Residents were told to lock all doors and windows and to immediately report anything suspicious to the RCMP.
