1 dead after train collides with Manitoba Sheriffs van near Portage la Prairie

Manitoba RCMP say a 28-year-old man is dead after a train and a Manitoba Sheriffs van collided west of Portage la Prairie Tuesday morning.
Around 8 a.m. on July 14, RCMP responded to a report of a collision along Road 40 West.
It is believed that a Manitoba Sheriffs van collided with a train, which caused the van to roll and land in a ditch.
The driver of the van, a 28-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew says the province is mourning the loss.
Kinew said in a statement that the service of sheriffs makes a difference in communities across the province every day.
“Today, we mourn the loss of one of those dedicated sheriffs,” said Kinew.
“We are also thinking of the sheriff who was injured, and we wish them a full and quick recovery. “
An investigation is ongoing between RCMP, CN Police and Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety.
