Two women charged following vehicle theft and abduction: Winnipeg police

Two women are in custody following an abduction on Wednesday, according to the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS).

They say at around 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a report that a woman had been abducted along Arlington Street.

Police learned the suspects had allegedly arranged a meeting with the woman to return a stolen vehicle. Once the woman entered the vehicle, the suspects fled the scene.

The vehicle was later witnessed downtown by members of the Auxiliary Cadet Unit, and additional support was called in to attempt to stop the vehicle.

During the attempted stop, the suspects rammed two police vehicles before continuing to flee.

Officers, with the assistance of Air1, spotted the vehicle in the North End, where officers then used a spike belt.

Following a short foot chase, officers were able to apprehend the suspects.

Through the initial stages of the investigation, WPS has been able to determine the suspects and the victim knew each other prior to the abduction.

In addition, officers allege the suspects forcible stole the vehicle from the victim and refused to return it unless a payment was made on April 23.

Both suspects are facing nine charges combined, including robbery, extortion and assaulting a peace officer.
