By News Staff

Two teenagers were arrested after an incident at the Kildonan Place mall involving an imitation firearm and bear spray Monday afternoon.

The Winnipeg Police Service says it received a report around 4:20 p.m. that a man had been shot.

Officers arrived at the mall to find a 17-year-old boy apprehended by Kildonan Place security and an off-duty WPS officer.

Police say an imitation firearm loaded with blank cartridges was recovered on the suspect’s person. Police say he suffered from being bear sprayed.

Officers also located a 16-year-old boy suffering from minor upper-body injuries sustained from a firearm, police allege. He was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Investigators believe the two teenagers were involved in a verbal argument that escalated. They allege the 16-year-old discharged bear spray, before the 17-year-old discharged the imitation firearm.

Both suspects were not previously known to one another, police say.

The 17-year-old is facing charges of assault with a weapon and use of an imitation firearm during commission of an indictable offence.
