Manitoba RCMP charge Winnipeg woman for driving drunk with children in the car

By The Canadian Press

Manitoba Mounties have charged a Winnipeg woman with a slew of traffic violations after she was caught driving while intoxicated with children in the vehicle.

Red River North RCMP say they received two calls Sunday evening about someone driving a vehicle erratically just outside Winnipeg in the rural municipality of West St. Paul.

Officers stopped the vehicle and RCMP say it was determined the 21-year-old female driver and a female passenger in the front seat were both heavily intoxicated with open liquor in the vehicle.

Officers found a six-month old boy in a car seat, a two-year-old boy in an unsafe booster seat and a three-year-old girl not properly buckled in the back seat.

Police are not identifying the driver to protect the identity of the children involved.

RCMP say the driver had a blood alcohol concentration level of nearly two and a half times the legal limit and has been charged with impaired driving, two counts of failing to properly secure a child and carrying open liquor in the vehicle.
