Winnipeg police are searching for a suspect after a man was reportedly attacked in Chinatown last week.

The Winnipeg Police Service says officers were called to the Seven Oaks General Hospital on March 30 around 9:30 a.m. Police were told a man was assaulted at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Princess Street.

The 56-year-old victim, who was taken to hospital by a Good Samaritan, was suffering from injuries sustained from a physical assault, according to police.

Officers were told the victim was walking westbound on Pacific Street around 8 a.m. when the suspect approached him.

“The suspect struck the victim in the upper body without provocation, causing him to fall to the sidewalk,” police said in a statement. “The suspect fled on foot before police arrived.”

Investigators believe the same suspect physically assaulted a second victim afterwards on Princess Street. That second assault has not been reported to police.

“The assault caused the victim to fall momentarily before rising to his feet and fleeing to safety,” police said. “The suspect fled on foot before police arrived.”

The suspect has been described as a man between the ages of 25 and 40. He is approximately five-foot-eight to six-foot-two, with a larger build.

He was wearing a black jacket at the time of the alleged assaults.
