Blaze at vacant Winnipeg home, 12 days after fire forced 7 people out

A vacant Winnipeg home needed to be demolished Friday due to a fire, just 12 days after a blaze in the same building forced seven people from their home.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to the fire on Ross Avenue – between Ellen Street and Isabel Street – around 8:30 a.m.
Crews say they arrived to find smoke coming from the two-and-a-half storey house.

Firefighters attacked the fire from outside “because it was unsafe to enter the structure,” the WFPS said. Firefighters used aerial ladders to apply water.
Fire crews ordered an emergency demolition of the building due to its “structural instability.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

WFPS responded to a structure fire at the home on March 26.
The occupants had managed to evacuate before crews arrived. The city helped the seven people find temporary accommodations.
The home at the time sustained significant damage from smoke, fire, and water.
