Winnipeg man charged with 2nd-degree murder after woman’s death in January West-End apartment fire

Winnipeg police have charged a man in connection with the death of a 23-year-old woman following a fire in a West-End apartment in January.

Police found 23-year-old Star Alicia Thomas in critical condition after the Jan. 3 fire in a three-storey building on Sargent Avenue near Arlington Street.

The victim was transported to hospital, where she died of her injuries.

On Monday, police arrested and charged 26-year-old Joey Robertson Lecoy of Winnipeg.

The WPS says the accused and victim knew each other but did not specify the nature of their relationship.

Lecoy was charged with second-degree murder and five counts of possession of a restricted or prohibited weapon or ammunition contrary to prohibition orders.

He was detained in custody.
