Winnipeg police say a 20-year-old man is facing multiple charges in connection with a crime spree on Tuesday.
Police allege a suspect stole a vehicle from a parking garage before robbing three Winnipeg businesses.
The WPS says it started before 8 a.m., when the suspect attended a parking garage on Donald Street. Police allege he located keys inside an unlocked vehicle and stole the car.
Police say the 20-year-old attended a supermarket on Kenaston Boulevard and stole merchandise. When staff confronted him, the suspect swung the stolen property at an employee before fleeing in a stolen vehicle.
That same evening, around 5:40 p.m., police say the suspect attended a supermarket on Pembina Highway with his face disguised and stole merchandise. When he was confronted by staff, he reportedly swung the stolen property at employees before fleeing.
Less than two hours later, around 7:15 p.m., the suspect attended a gas station on Pembina Highway in a stolen vehicle, had an employee fill it and went inside as if he was going to pay. When the tank was full, the suspect allegedly fled.
Finally, shortly after 10 p.m., police say the suspect attended a grocery store on Marion Street with his face disguised and stole items. The WPS alleges the suspect punched an employee in the face and fled in a stolen vehicle.
Manitoba RCMP say they spotted the stolen vehicle speeding in the Beaujesour area Wednesday around 1:40 a.m.
“The officer attempted to stop the car; however, it continued to speed and drive erratically,” WPS said in a statement. “The vehicle was eventually stopped, and the male driver was taken into custody. He was ticketed for offences related to driving, provided a serious offence notice and later turned over to the Winnipeg Police Service.”
The accused is facing charges such as robbery, disguise with intent and theft of a motor vehicle. He was detained.
