Will AI kill the essay?

By The Big Story

In today’s Big Story podcast, every day brings new headlines of entrance exams Chat GPT has passed, or university essays the AI tech has scored solid grades on. And the technology will only get better from here.

Jeff Schatten is an associate professor of business administration at Washington and Lee University. He joins us to discuss how learning institutions can and should adapt their pedagogical approaches to the continued advances in AI tech.

“I believe that we’re going to have to have a range of tools that we give to students, so that they can still get those same neural developments that you and I had through writing,” he said.

Can universities weed out AI essays, like they do for plagiarism? Will they ban the programs entirely? And if they can’t prevent it’s use entirely, will universities embrace AI technology?
