Two charged after 10-year-old and father were allegedly assaulted on Winnipeg bus

Winnipeg police have charged two people after a 10-year-old and his father were allegedly assaulted on a bus.

WPS say the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, when a man and a woman got on a Winnipeg Transit bus and began yelling obscenities at the father and son.

The situation then escalated and both were allegedly punched in the head numerous times.

“The two suspects immediately fled the bus; however, the male returned and slapped the father across the face before making his final exit,” said Winnipeg police in a statement.

Police met up with the bus along Main Street at which point they conducted witness interviews with those on the bus.

The father and son were taken to a hospital in stable condition and were treated for their injuries.

WPS say the two accused were standing nearby and were taken into custody.

A 31-year-old man from Winnipeg has since been charged with two counts of assault, failing to comply with an undertaking, and for having two outstanding warrants for breaking and entering.

The woman, a 37-year-old from Winnipeg has since been charged with assault.
