Winnipeg police say a 50-year-old man was struck by a machete and had his vehicle stolen after he confronted a group of suspects who allegedly stole his Christmas lights.

The Winnipeg Police Service says it happened Friday around 11:15 p.m.

Police believe the man followed the group, in his car, from his home on McArthur Street to nearby Higgins Avenue in the Point Douglas neighbourhood.

During the confrontation with the “unknown group of suspects,” police say one of the suspects brandished a machete and struck the victim in the upper body.

Two suspects allegedly stole the victim’s vehicle and fled.

The armed suspect and the remainder of the group fled on foot.

Police say the 50-year-old was taken to hospital in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
