Connor Bedard on verge of history as Canada nets another 11-goal win

Connor Bedard tied Jordan Eberle for the most career goals at the World Junior Championship with 14 as Canada blanked Austria 11-0 on Thursday.

Team Canada notched their second win of the tournament scoring three goals in the first period followed by four-goal periods in the second and third, as Bedard tallied six points in the match with two goals and four assists.

Bedard passed John Tavares, Eric Lindros and Jeff Carter in world junior goals at the U-20 event by adding two against Austria.

Logan Stankoven added one goal and three assists, and Nathan Gaucher and Adam Fantilli had one goal and two assists each.

Goaltender Benjamin Gaudreau made 12 saves in the shutout win, while Austrian netminder Benedikt Oschgan saved 36 shots, though Austria has been outscored 31-0 through three games.

Canada’s loss to Czechia puts them at six points in Group A while Czechia has seven and group leader Sweden has eight. Canada will face off against the Swedes on New Year’s Eve.
