Manitoba police watchdog investigating fatal officer involved shooting

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has begun an investigation after an officer shot and killed one person on Dec. 3.

The IIU says the incident involving an officer from the Winnipeg Police Service happened around 7:30 p.m. when officers were reportedly looking to take a man with outstanding warrants into custody.

It is believed that while WPS officers conducted a traffic stop around Portage Avenue at Bourkevale Drive “a use of force encounter occurred” which resulted in the officer firing their service weapon.
