Man killed in ‘officer-involved shooting’ at traffic stop: police

A man was killed following an “officer-involved shooting” during a traffic stop in St. James Saturday evening, police say.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at Portage Avenue and Bourkevale Drive.

Police say an officer discharged a weapon and struck the driver. More details are not yet known.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he died.

The province’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU), is investigating.
