Winnipeg 15-year-old charged with assault, break and enter

A 15-year-old has been charged by Winnipeg police following a home invasion on Friday.

WPS say the incident occurred just after 1 p.m. on Oct. 21, at a house on Stella Avenue, “a male entered a residence where two adult females (he had previously met) and six children were sleeping.”

“He assaulted both adults, demanded money and threatened to kill everyone in the house. The victims believed he had a firearm concealed in his waistband,” Winnipeg police added.

Following the assault, the teen reportedly forced one of the adults to get in a taxi with him, at which point the pair went to a bank on Portage Avenue.

“When the victim could not withdraw money, the suspect took her (debit) card and fled on foot. The victim ran to safety,” said WPS in a statement.

Not long later, officers patrolling near Notre Dame Avenue and Hargrave Street found the suspect and took him into custody.

The teen was charged with armed robbery, breaking and entering, kidnapping, assault, uttering threats, and mischief.

WPS added while in custody the teen damaged the interview room.
