Woman, 81, seriously injured in early-morning collision; occupants of 2nd vehicle fled scene
Winnipeg police say an 81-year-old woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision in the St. James neighbourhood early Sunday morning.
Police say the collision happened around 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Sargent Avenue and Empress Street.
Officers needed to extract the 81-year-old from the heavily damaged vehicle. A 45-year-old man in the vehicle was also injured.

Police say the occupants of the second vehicle – a late model dark Dodge Caravan – fled on foot after the collision.
“The female victim suffered serious bodily injuries and was transported to hospital in unstable condition, where she remains in guarded condition,” WPS said in a statement. “The male victim was also transported to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.”
Investigators determined the suspect vehicle was travelling “at a high rate of speed” prior to the collision.
Police are seeking dashcam footage of the suspect vehicle and information related to its manner of driving before the crash.
