Province and Winnipeg invest in child-care services for newcomer families

By CityNews Staff

The province has partnered with the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce to provide more than $1 million to support child-care services for newcomer families.

12 spaces are available as part of a pilot project, with a total of 68 fully subsidized spaces to be created by April of next year.

“This new program will go a long way towards reducing barriers to employment, but it will also help people connect into our community more quickly,” explained Wayne Ewasko, Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister.

“It will ensure newcomers can find quality care for their children, but it will also help them build the relationships with other people within the community, but also in this great city, and in this province of ours.”
