Morning fire destroys house, firetruck involved in collision on route

One house has been destroyed following a fire Thursday morning.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a house fire on Matheson Avenue East around 6:40 a.m.

When crews arrived smoke could be seen coming from the home, and the fire was soon extinguished, preventing damage to nearby properties.

“Due to significant fire, smoke and water damage, the house has been declared a complete loss,” said the WFPS in a statement.

WFPS says no one was in the house at the time and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

“While responding to the fire, a WFPS fire engine was involved in a collision near the intersection of Main Street and Higgins Avenue.”

Due to the collision, another firetruck had to be sent to the house, and additional crews were called to assist with the collision scene.

WFPS added the driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital in stable condition.
